This fascinating and highly informative video on a famous Deaf person is just over half an hour long. It is published by BSL Zone in British Sign Language with English spoken commentary and subtitles.
Videos like these are essential viewing when trying to get a fuller picture of what it is like being a Deaf person from a linguistic and cultural minority group.
Enjoy and ask any questions in class if you wish. Click on the photo below to go to the video.

Back for another trip in to sign!
This week we start our second term of the course. Like last time we will have the chance to explore this wonderful rich cultural group and learn something about their unique language, British Sign Language. This term we will look at:
Should be fun!
- Deaf/deaf - how communication differs and a brief look at what it can be like being Deaf/deaf.
- The manual alphabet for fingerspelling English words and when this is used.
- Everyday BSL including grammar, hand shapes, numbers, colours and a range of basic everyday vocabularies.
- Different ways to have fun whilst playing games to practice skills and grow our confidence.
- Deaf life - cultural and social, communication, barriers and solutions, sign poetry and storytelling, and an introduction to Deaf history.
Should be fun!
